Jules E. Blazej
Jules Edward Blazej, 82, of Critter Hill, Frederick County, Virginia, died peacefully on Friday, April 22, 2011, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Blazej was born in 1929, in Chappaqua, New York, the son of the late Jules H. and Marietta Blazej. He was an Electrical Engineer with the FAA, retiring in 1985. He was a graduate of Clarkson University, Class of 1952, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
Mr. Blazej was a long standing member of NARFE, Chapter 180, Alzheimer Chairperson and service officer; Vice President AARP, Chapter 114; Berlin Airlift Historical Foundation; the Shenandoah Region Antique Auto Club; Elks Lodge # 867; and a card carrying member of the Procrastinators’ Club of America. In addition he volunteered with the Winchester Medical Center and the Winchester Little Theatre.
Mr. Blazej was a longstanding member of the Barbershop Harmony Society, Winchester Chapter; the Mill Run Troubadours ; Apple Capital Chorus, Winchester Chapter; the Sounds of the Shenandoah, Charlestown Chapter; and the Golden Oldies-Founder’s Club.
He had a profound love for animals and nature in general. He aptly named our property “Critter Hill” where he regularly chopped wood and enjoyed sunsets with Mary and all the critters.
He married Mary F. Mauck on August 24, 2004, in Winchester, Virginia.
He is survived by his wife, two stepsons, Greg Wooddell of Winchester, Eric Wooddell of Georgia ; his daughter, Lisa Erlandson and husband, Craig, two sons, David Blazej and Robert Blazej all of New Jersey; five grandchildren, Kyle and Matthew Erlandson, Lexie and Preston Blazej and Sabine Ruth Fletcher; and his loving sister, Carol Weinstein and her husband, Howard, of Ontario, Canada.
Jules would want to acknowledge a special thanks to Marion Domjan Snyder and Ricky Long, Jr., for their many years of friendship and caring.
His son, Danny Blazej, sister, Cynthia Schneider and brother, Richard Blazej, preceded him in death.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Interment will be private.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, from 6:00-8:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Local Barbershop Quartets.
