Judith “Judy” Guernsey Payne, 80, of Frederick County, Virginia, died Saturday, November 24, 2018, at Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Payne was born in 1938 in Evanston, Illinois, growing up in Garrett Park, Maryland, the daughter of the late Elsa and George Guernsey. She was a retired Special Education Teacher in Loudoun County, Virginia. Mrs. Payne was an avid photographer who loved to take pictures of her family and of the places they visited. She loved traveling with her husband, Harry, especially to San Antonio, Texas, where she traveled for her 70th birthday. She was an active member at Opequon Presbyterian Church.
Her husband, Harry Melvin Payne, whom she married on July 6, 1996 in Pine Grove, Virginia preceded her in death in 2016.
Surviving is a daughter, Kristin Birks and a son, Kenneth Birks (Jill) all of Toronto, Canada; step-daughters, Phyllis Cooke (Matthew) of Gainesville, Virginia and Marissa Sheffield of Winchester, Virginia; grandchildren, Sebastian Birks of Toronto, Canada, Blake Berry, Ryder Sheffield both of Winchester, Virginia, Keegan Cooke of Oakland, California, Madison Cooke of Gainesville, Virginia; sister, Jill Guernsey De Zapien (Antonio) of Tucson, Arizona and brother, John Austin Guernsey of Tacoma Park, Maryland; daughter-in-law, Adrienne Guernsey of Portland, Oregon; and nieces/nephews, Rebecca and Ivan Zapien, Benjamin and Jessica Guernsey.
Along with her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her brother, George Thomas Guernsey, Jr.
A celebration of life will be conducted on Saturday, December 1, 2018, at 3 pm at Opequon Presbyterian Church with Reverend David Witt officiating. A fellowship reception will follow the service at the church.
