Joseph Victor “Joe” Kitner, 70, of Frederick County, Virginia, died Saturday, June 22, 2013, in his home surrounded by his wife and good friend and his caregiver, Brian Ross.
Mr. Kitner was born in 1942, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Joseph E. and Charlotte Reardon Kitner. He lived a fulfilling and productive life. He was a machinist with General Electric. Mr. Kitner previously owned and operated a contracting business. Mr. Kitner was a member of the Winchester Moose Club, Winchester Elks Club, Valley Cruisers Car Club and a member of the North-South Skirmish Association (Second Virginia Voluntary Infantry).
He married Sarah Katherine O’Donnell on August 1, 1981, in Berryville, Virginia.
Surviving with his wife is his daughter, Theresa Talley of Martinsburg, West Virginia, son-in-law Edward Talley, of Bunker Hill, West Virginia; sons, Steve Kitner and wife, Cindy of Bunker Hill, West Virginia, Bill Kitner and wife, Vanessa, of Hedgesville, West Virginia; six grandchildren, Greg and wife, Brittany, Cody, Stephen, Tyler, Wil, Carlie, and great-grandson, Hunter; sisters, Linda Frederiksen and husband, Erik, Nancy Houston and husband, John, all of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; numerous surviving nieces and nephew and his caregiver, Brian Ross of Kearneysville, West Virginia. He is also survived by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ann and Dan Ziehm, of Salt Lake City, Utah. One sister, Barbara Noll, preceded him in death.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, prior to the service, from 12:00-1:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Thursday, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
