Joseph Samuel Jackson, Jr., 90, of Frederick County, Virginia, died Wednesday, November 4, 2015, at his home.
Mr. Jackson was born in 1925, in Pocahontas, Virginia, the son of the late Joseph Samuel and Daisy A. Jackson, Sr. He was a veteran having served in the United States Army, during World War II. Mr. Jackson served in Anzio, where he was wounded, North Africa and Monte Cassino. He was awarded the Purple Heart. After returning home from military service he worked in the coal mines until 1960. Mr. Jackson was then employed as an Operating Engineer retiring from Safeway grocery chain.
He married Carolyn Mae Fore on December 22, 1946, in Sophia, West Virginia. She preceded him in death on December 10, 2009.
Surviving is her son, Jack L. Jackson of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; three grandchildren, six great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; his sisters, Iris “Tot” Wallace, Peggy “Jitter” Farmer, Dolly Sherman, Gaye Eades; brothers, Fred Jackson, Richard “Dick” Jackson and his beloved K-9 companion, Sarge.
Three sisters, Margaret Jackson, Louise Kenny, Ruth Jackson and four brothers, Charles “Duck”, George “Bo”, Donald and Kenneth Jackson, preceded him in death.
All services with Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel will be private.
