Joseph C. Alger, 78 of Winchester, VA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 19, 2024.
Joseph was born in Winchester to the late Charles S. Alger and Georgianna Alger McCarty. He was a Vietnam War veteran who also made a career in the Air Force, retiring in 1987. After retirement, he owned and operated Alger’s Green Palm Restaurant. He also worked as a chef at Shawnee Springs Health & Rehab while taking care of his ailing mother. Joseph will be missed by his loving family.
Joseph met his wife Uta while stationed in Germany and they had a son, Stephen.
He is survived by his wife, Uta, son Stephen and wife Laura Alger; grandchildren, Ashley, Charissa and Richard; 5 great-grandchildren, Makenna, Adelyn, Lawton, Scarlett, Hayden and one on the way and his brothers, David Alger and wife, Brenda and Phillip Alger, sister-in-law, Irene Alger, brother-in-law, Bob Hawthorne and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Georgianna, siblings, Doris, Emily, Charles, Theodore, Walter, James, Patricia, Margaret, Anna Lou and Betty, and his beloved canine companion, Pepper.
Joseph was an active member of Relief United Methodist Church since childhood.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, June 28, 2024, from 11am to 1pm with a service to be conducted at 1pm all to be held at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery.
