Jon Wayne Klein

Jon Wayne Klein, 68, of Winchester, VA, died Tuesday, February 14, at Winchester Medical Center. He was born in 1943, in San Angelo, TX and graduated in 1961, from George Mason High School in Falls Church, VA. Jon served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963 with the Honor Guard at Fort Myer, VA as a sentinel for the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. He was a managing partner with Holiday Spas for many years and in recent years was an independent insurance agent specializing in the senior market. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Winchester. Jon was known by his family and friends for his competitive spirit and his deep intellectual curiosity, and his hobbies over the years ranged from running triathlons to amateur photography to the close study of religious history. Jon loved to sing and performed at various venues in both the Winchester area and Northern VA under the stage name “Jon Wayne.” As a volunteer with the Shenandoah Area Agency on Aging (SAAA), Jon performed at many local Senior Centers, primarily in Winchester, Stephens City and Berryville, where he was much appreciated.

Jon married Charlotte Momsen on December 28, 1963, in Falls Church, VA.

He is survived by his wife; daughter, Maria Christine Klein (David Hopler) of Richmond, VA and grandchildren Jack, Joe and Aerin; son, Jon Anthony Klein (Denise) of Winchester, VA and grandson Alex; daughter, Michelle Angelos (Thomas) of Warner-Robins, GA and grandchildren, Thomas, James, and Julie; sister, Carol Ann Klein of Falls Church, VA; brother James Klein (Terry) of El Cajon, CA; and many other friends and family who loved him dearly. Jon was particularly close to his nephew, Beau Johnson.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Sherando High School in Stephens City, VA, on Sunday, March 4 from 1-5 p.m. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Jon’s memory to the Shenandoah Area Agency on Aging (SAAA), Front Royal, VA (www.shenandoahaaa.com).

When I was a kid, Uncle Jon was my mom and dad's giant friend to me. Uncle Jon and Aunt Charlotte were truly like family in my heart. I hadn't seen him since 1999 or 2000 when we met with them at a Karaoke outing in Manassas, but it was like he was never gone. That being said, it will remain that way in my heart. I love you Uncle Jon and you and Dad have fun being together again! But stay outta trouble! lolol Aunt Charlotte you and the kids are in my thoughts and I love you all!
