John L. Coffelt, Jr.
John L. Coffelt, Jr., 78, of Winchester, Virginia, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family Monday, December 3, 2012, in Winchester, Virginia.
Mr. Coffelt was born in 1934, in Winchester, Virginia, the son of the late John Lester Coffelt, Sr. and Eva Ellen Coffelt. John was a graduate of James Wood High School. He was a veteran having served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. John was employed as a machinist for General Electric for twenty five years retiring in 1999; he also worked for Abex Corporation and Rubbermaid Corporation. He loved restoring street rods as well as gardening and wood working.
John had a wonderful sense of humor. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He worked hard and always put his family first.
Mr. Coffelt, married Catherine Louise Wallace on June 15, 1957 in Hagerstown, Maryland.
Surviving with his wife are two sons, Terry Coffelt and his wife, Susan, of Cross Junction, Virginia and Chris Coffelt and his wife, Silvia, of King George, Virginia; four grandchildren, Melissa Coffelt, Jonathan Coffelt and wife, Ashley, Nicklas Coffelt and Tommy Coffelt; three great-grandchildren, Carson Southern, Camden Southern and Olivia Coffelt; four sisters, Sarah Watson, of Baltimore, Maryland, Louise Coffelt, of Winchester, Virginia , Joyce Martz, of Stephens City, Virginia and Lucille Coffelt, of Moorefield, Kentucky ; a brother Paul Coffelt, of Stephens City, Virginia and also his beloved dog “Charlie”.
Mr. Coffelt, was preceded in death by three brothers, William “Billy” Coffelt, Robert Coffelt and Roger Coffelt and three sisters, Fannie Mae Armel, Pauline DeHaven and Mary Coffelt.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00-8:00 Pm at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted on Friday at 11:00 AM at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel with the Reverend Charles Jarrett Officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park, Frederick County, Virginia.
