John H. “Jack” Knode, Jr.
John Henry “Jack” Knode, Jr., 93, of Winchester, Virginia, died March 8, 2013, in Evergreen Health and Rehabilitation Facility.
Mr. Knode was born in 1920, in Elkton, Maryland. He was the son of the late John H. Knode, Sr. and Edith Knode. He was a graduate of Chambersburg High School. Mr. Knode received a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture from Penn State University where he was also a tennis coach. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II. Mr. Knode was a Horticulturist having been employed with Niagra Chemical, Green Chemical and National Fruit, retiring from the Environmental Protection Agency. He was an avid tennis player, teaching private lessons and was a summer tennis instructor for Frederick County Parks and Recreation.
Mr. Knode married Geraldine “Jerry” Cather on April 18, 1953, in Winchester, Virginia.
Surviving with his wife, are four nephews, Darrell K. Wilson and wife, Deborah, of Salisbury, Maryland, Carl Schleicher and wife, Marie, of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Dennis Schleicher and wife, Gloria, of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, J.L. Martin, Jr., of Frederick County, Virginia and a niece, Stephanie Gregory of Frederick County, Virginia.
Mr. Knode was preceded in death by his two sisters, Jane Schleicher and Geraldine Rife and his brother, William Knode.
The family will receive friends on Thursday afternoon, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, at Omps Funeral Home Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Friday, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Pastor George Fletcher officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia.
