John Duell Glover, Jr.
John Duell Glover, Jr. was born February 8, 1924, in Haddonfield, New Jersey, to Marie Cunningham and John D. Glover.
He was a 1941 graduate of Handley High School and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and contributed to support the SAE Foundation. He was a WWII Veteran of the United States Army. In 1950 he joined his father, the distributor for the Gulf Oil Corporation. In the 1960’s he became Secretary/Treasurer of John D. Glover & Sons, Inc. retiring in 1990. With his wife, they started in the antique business in 1970 specializing in Early American Pattern Glass. Together they opened a shop on S. Cameron Street in 1976 and operated it until 1997.
He was a former President and performing member of the Bark Mill Players of the Winchester Little Theatre in the 1950’s and early 1960’s. He was a member of Friends of the Library, Winchester-Frederick County Historical Society, Kernstown Battlefield Association, Museum of the Shenandoah Valley and supporter of the Theatre Department at Shenandoah University. He was of the Presbyterian faith and attended Second Opequon Presbyterian Church. He was an avid gardener specializing in dahlias.
He married Marjorie Ann Duncan on June 21, 1969 in Winchester, Virginia.
Surviving with his wife is his brother, Robert E. Glover and nephew, John E. Glover.
The family will receive friends on Monday, prior to the service from 1:00-2:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Mr. Alan Morrison and Reverend Joel Thornton officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery.
