Joel Stowe, 90, of Winchester, Virginia passed away on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, at Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Stowe was born in 1928 in Buckingham County, Virginia, the son of the late Bertha Sue and Rev. William Thomas Stowe. He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during World War II as a Seaman 1st Class. Mr. Stowe began a career as an insurance salesman with Nationwide in Lynchburg and Winchester, as well as Erie Insurance in Winchester. He later became the owner of a Real Estate business, Joel Stowe Associates and worked with Prudential Real Estate and ERA OakCrest Realty. He was a member of Braddock Street United Methodist Church for over 50 years. Mr. Stowe was also a member of Hiram Masonic Lodge in Winchester for 60 years and a former member of Winchester Moose Lodge and Blue Ridge Association of Realtors. He had a great affection for his dogs.
He married Lucita Frances Martin on December 6, 1951, in Lynchburg, Virginia.
Surviving with his wife of 67 years are daughters, Lisa Gill Diffenderfer (Scott), Suzette Neff (Mark) and son, Tim Stowe (Lisha) all of Winchester, Virginia; grandchildren, Josh Gill of Winchester, Virginia, Abbie Fay (Adam) of Charlotte, North Carolina, Joel “Joey” Gill of Winchester, Virginia, Caleb Stowe of York, Pennsylvania, Virginia ”Ginny” Stowe, Madolin “Maddi” Neff, and Tucker Neff, all of Winchester; great grandson, Jaxson Gill of Winchester, Virginia; sisters, Beatrice “Bea” Pendleton of Lynchburg, Virginia, Ollie Stowe Brooks of Salem, Virginia and brother, Caleb Stowe (Lynn) of Charlottesville, Virginia.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Julia Wilkes and Ruby Guill and brothers, Neil, Herman, and Jerry Stowe.
The family will receive friends from 2 pm to 4 pm on Sunday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
All services and interment will be private.
