JoAnn C. Athey, 94 of Winchester, Va, passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Winchester Medical Center.

JoAnn was born in 1930 in Winchester VA, the daughter of the late Merenes and Gertrude Castleman. She was a graduate of Handley High School. JoAnn retired as the bookkeeper and co-owner of Athey’s Floor Sanding and Finishing. She enjoyed traveling when she had the chance .Most of all, she loved her family, grandchildren and her dogs.

She married Donald Eugene Athey on June 13, 1954, and he preceded her in death in 2018.

JoAnn is survived by her daughter, Dana Athey; sons, Scott Athey and David Athey; 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, JoAnn is preceded in death by her sister, Louise Newman and her brother, Marshall Castleman.

A graveside service will be held for JoAnn on Thursday September 11, 2025, at 11am in Mount Hebron Cemetery. Officiating will be Pastor Mary Lock.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of JoAnn to the Winchester SPCA, 111 Featherbed Lane, Winchester, VA 22601.
