Joan Michael Shiley

 

         Joan Catherine Michael Shiley, 78, of Stephens City, Virginia, died Saturday, February 28, 2015, at Winchester Medical Center.

 

         Mrs. Shiley was born March 23, 1936, in Winchester, Virginia, the daughter of the late Ernest Edwin and Mabel Lynn Michael and her step-father, Nevin Fiery.  She was a John Handley High School Graduate, Class of 1954 and Virginia Intermont College in Bristol, Virginia, where she received an Associates Degree in Secretarial Science.  Mrs. Shiley owned and operated Miss Joan’s Studio of Dance Art in Winchester, Virginia.  She later retired as a cashier with Walmart.  Mrs. Shiley was a member of Braddock Street United Methodist Church in Winchester.

 

         She married Arthur Robert (A.R.) Shiley on February 2, 1957, in Indiana.  He preceded her in death on June 9, 2005.

 

         Surviving are her daughters, Susan Shiley Martin of Stephens City, Virginia, Sandra Lea Anderson of Winchester; grandchildren, Leslie Michielli, Chrissy Martin, Dr. Michael Rutherford, Cpt. Jeffrey Rutherford, Shawn Anderson, Logan Martin and 6 great grandchildren.

 

         The family will receive friends on Thursday, from 6:00-8:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.

 

         A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, with Reverend Jackie Battles officiating.  Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park, Frederick County, Virginia.

 

         A reception will follow the interment at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel.

Joan was such a caring individual and a fantastic dance instructor. You could pick out Joan's students at the community recitals; Joan's students stood tall and pointed their toes!
