Joan Mary Collet Butler, 94, of Frederick County, Virginia, died Saturday, November 21, 2015. She was born in India in 1921, the daughter of Frances Finlay Willis Collet and Walter Joseph Collet. She grew up in Scarsdale, NY, and was a graduate of Swarthmore College where she met her husband, Scot Butler, whom she married in 1948 and who predeceased her in 2005.
She was a wonderful mother, wife and friend, with many interests, including gardening, historic homes, church, golf, bridge and music. She was a charter member of McLean Garden Club, a life member of the American Boxwood Society and served as Trustee of Belle Grove, Inc.
Surviving is her son, Scot Butler III and wife, Belinda Vea; her daughter, Susan C. Butler and husband, Robert Elder; and her grandchildren, Lane and Brian.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 1, 2015, in the Chapel at Shenandoah Valley Westminster Canterbury.
