Jimmie K. Ellington
Jimmie King Ellington, 78, of Winchester, Virginia, died Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at his home, after many years with Parkinson’s and poor health.
Mr. Ellington was born in 1936, in Halifax County, North Carolina, the son of the late Carey W. and Luna Ellington. He was a graduate of Aurelian Springs High School in North Carolina. Mr. Ellington was a Veteran having served in the Virginia Army National Guard achieving the rank of Captain. He worked for C&P Telephone Co. (now Verizon) retiring in 1991. He was a true telephone man with the “spirit of service”. Jimmie was a Master Mason, a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and past member of the Winchester Rotary Club. He served three years on the Frederick County Board of Supervisors, Gainesboro District, in the early 1990’s. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Jimmie married Anne Long on June 15, 1958.
Surviving with his wife is their son, James P. Ellington of Midland, Virginia; four grandchildren, Jennifer Ellington and husband, Matt Moores, Zechariah Ellington and wife, Jennifer, Bethany Ellington and David Ellington.
Mr. Ellington was preceded in death by two children, David Ellington and Phyllis Ellington.
Jimmie liked to entertain his friends and he was known for his jokes, funny stories and his whistling.
A Memorial Service will be conducted at 11:30 on Saturday, December 6 at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Reverend Elizabeth Lewis and Reverend William White officiating. Interment will be private.
