James “Jim” Stowers, 78, of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at Winchester Medical Center. James “Jim” Stowers, 78, of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at Winchester Medical Center.
Jim was born in 1938 in Richwood, West Virginia, the son of the late Henry and Ruth Ellen Stowers. He was a graduate of Richwood High School, Class of 1957 and a veteran of the United States Navy. Jim was owner/operator of Liberty Lunch Restaurant and retired from Upshur County Public Schools, where he was a bus driver for 25 years. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. Jim was an avid fan of WVU and VT, an excellent woodworker, he loved the outdoors, working in his garden, and a huge animal lover. A kind, loving person who enjoyed the company of people with telling jokes/stories and making people laugh. Jim’s greatest passion and love was his family. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother that will be missed.
Jim married Sharon Sue McClung on August 10, 1962 in Staunton, Virginia.
Surviving with his beloved wife of 55 years is a daughter, Robin Blend (Thomas) of Winchester, Virginia and a son, James “Jim” Henry Stowers of Winchester, Virginia; grandchildren, Dr. Kelly Blend of Anderson, South Carolina, Jared Blend (Amanda) of Winchester, Virginia, Nathan Stowers of Clingerstown, Pennsylvania, Nicholas Stowers of Winchester, Virginia, Matthew Oates of Maryland, and Adam Fisher of Nashville, Tennessee; sister, Rebecca McClung (Charles) of Trenton, New Jersey; and brother, Henry “Davis” Stowers (Gaye) of Greensville, Tennessee.
Along with his parents, Jim was preceded in death by six siblings.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, October 6th, at the VFW Post 4019 in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia.
