James R. L. “Jim” Darr, Sr. 87, of Frederick County, Virginia, died Sunday, June 4, 2017, at Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Darr was born in 1929, in Three Churches, West Virginia, the son of the late Thelma and Robert Alfred Darr. He was a Class A heavy truck mechanic with Allegheny Freight Lines retiring in 1990. Mr. Darr was a veteran having served during the Korean Conflict in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Corporal. He was a Purple Heart recipient. He was a member and Past Fire Chief of the Round Hill Community Fire and Rescue Co., Member of the Shenandoah Valley Gas Engine Association, and an avid NASCAR fan.
He married Ruthann White on May 29, 1951 in Winchester, Virginia.
Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Ann H. Darr and Claudia Darr Mason and his son, James R.L. Darr, Jr.; grandchildren, Heather D. Barenklau, Ashley D. Sura, Carson Ann Mason, Kendall M. Mason; great grandchildren, Emma Barenklau, Jack Barenklau, Hadley Hahn and Lucy Hahn. He is also survived by two sisters, Louise Darr Timbrook and Elaine Darr Tomkins and two brothers, Roy A Darr and Claude P. Darr.
Mr. Darr is preceded in death by four sisters, Lucille D. Timbrook, Ruth D. Fredman, June D. Henrichson, Tina Mary Darr and two brothers, Wade R. Darr and Sloan D. Darr.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel and on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Interment will be in Branch Mountain Cemetery, Jersey Mountain Road, Three Churches, West Virginia.
