James Morton Douglas
James Morton Douglas, 86, of Frederick County, Virginia died on Friday, June 9, 2017 at his home on Woodbine Farms.
Mr. Douglas was born December 8, 1930 in Warrenton and raised in Catlett, Virginia, the son of the late James K. and Eleanor N. Douglas. He was a veteran of the United States Army achieving the rank of 1st Lieutenant and served his country during the Korean War. Mr. Douglas graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, Class of 1952 earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Engineering. He was a farmer his entire life. He was a member of Relief United Methodist Church and also a member of the Round Hill Ruritan Club, Frederick County Farm Bureau, Frederick County Fruitgrowers and the Virginia State Horticultural Society.
Mr. Douglas married Margaret Eleanor Brumback on April 13, 1954 in Winchester, Virginia.
Surviving with his wife of 63 years are daughters, Bonnie D. Chumley and Sallie D. Wilfong (Scott); son, James B. Douglas (Dana); seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren and his brother, Bradford N. Douglas.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Douglas was preceded in death by a brother, John P. Douglas.
The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Tuesday June 13 at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00am on Wednesday June 14 at Relief United Methodist Church, 5275 Middle Road, Winchester, Virginia with Pastor Richard McDowell officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia. Following the interment all are invited back to the church social hall for lunch.
