James “Jim” W. Brackin, 66, of Cross Junction, VA, died Friday, June 23, 2017 in Annapolis, Maryland.

Mr. Brackin was born in Lake Wales, FL, in 1950, the son of the late James W. Brackin, Sr. and Florine Dunn. He was a veteran, having served in the U. S. Airforce during the Vietnam era. He worked as a coatings inspector and project engineer for RK&K.

Mr. Brackin married Sandra Jean Spurlock in Frostproof, FL, on February 7, 1970.

Along with his wife, he is survived by his son, Gregory J. Brackin (Megan); five grandchildren, Kieran, Myiah, and Liam Brackin, Tiana and James IV Brackin; and three sisters, Glenda Stilwell, Gail Perlaki (Bill), and Janice O’Hara (George).

Mr. Brackin was preceded in death by his son, James William Brackin III.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until the service at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, June 28th, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Pastor Patrick McCary officiating. Interment is private. Following the service, all are invited to a reception in the Omps Amherst Reception Center.

Jim Brackin was the Master of a thousand surprises. They usually started with his Dodge Ram sliding quietly into our driveway. After Otis, our dog, announced their arrival, the Brackins came to our door, always with something in their hands. Early morning it could be Danish from the Eastern Shore, late morning was a flea market find, like a 'basin wrench', afternoons was a personal item like a Brazos walking stick and evenings it was a sweet treat or a case of Sam Adams to ease the pain of the forthcoming 'Hearts' drubbing. The biggest surprise was always a cup of Pack's with layers of chocolate and raspberry which could arrive anytime day or night. Jim we love you (and Sandra) like a brother. Your Spirit lives on here at the house on the hill. Please continue your kindness for us Old Folks.

Sandra, I am so sad for you. I hope you know I am always here for you. My deepest sympathy to you and your family. I pray all your wonderful memories will sustain you during this difficult time.

My Uncle Jim was one of a kind. He could make you laugh...and his laugh was so contagious! I spent a lot of time growing up with him...my Aunt Jean...Jamie and Jason. They're a wonderful family. Aunt Jean and Jason.....Mom Gail and Glenda...My heart goes out to you and I'm there in spirit! Jeannie , Jason and family. So sorry for your loss. We all had good times when you were here in Ct. Jim was such a pleasure to be around. Remembering our New Years Eve we had at my home. Jeannie call me anytime. Miss and love you gf.

Jim was a great co-worker and mentor, and even better as a friend. He will be deeply missed by all he touched.
