James G. Heishman
James Gordon Heishman, age 86, of Stephenson, Virginia, died Saturday, October 2, 2010, at his residence.
Mr. Heishman was born in 1924, in Wardensville, West Virginia, the son of the late Virgil R. and Daisy F. Heishman. He was a driver for Novick/Hemingway Transport, retiring after 32 years of service. Mr. Heishman was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Winchester. He was a member and past officer of Elks Lodge BPOE 867; former member of the Winchester Moose Lodge #1283, Winchester Eagles Aerie 824, and member and co-founder of Mended Hearts Chapter 173. He was a member of the Winchester Exchange Club where he was awarded the “Book of Golden Deeds” in 1997. He was a member of the American Red Cross where he was nominated for Volunteer of the Year. He was a veteran of The United States Army serving during World War II in 1944-1945.
James married Wilda V. Himelwright on October 17, 1946 in Winchester.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Katherine Patterson of Stephens City, Virginia and Deborah Retalic of Ute, Iowa; one son, James B. ”JB” Heishman and wife, Terri of Charlotte, North Carolina; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a sister, Janet Cirrani and her husband, Tom of Middletown, Virginia; two brothers, Cecil Heishman and his wife, Betty of Stephens City, Virginia and Virgil Heishman and his wife, Cookie, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
He is preceded in death by a daughter, Jo Anne Heishman, a sister, Betty Jean Heishman, and two brothers, Marvin and Dwight Heishman.
A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, 11:00 AM, at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Reverend Dr. James Utt officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park with military honors accorded by VFW Post 2123.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
