James Davis “J.D.” Lawyer, 74, of Frederick County, Virginia, passed away Saturday, November 3, 2018, at his home.
Mr. Lawyer was born in 1944, in Winchester, Virginia, the son of the late Thelma and James C. Lawyer. He was a graduate of James Wood High School and attended Virginia Tech and Nashville Auto Diesel College. Mr. Lawyer was a Veteran having served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict, achieving the rank of Specialist 5. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Vietnam Service Award and the Bronze Star. Mr. Lawyer was a former partner of Hoak & Lawyer Service Station, the owner of J.D.’s Auto Repair, and a farmer at Buck Hill Farm in Frederick County.
Mr. Lawyer was a member of Second Opequon Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the VFW of Capon Bridge, West Virginia, the American Legion and Moose Lodge of Winchester, Virginia. He was a beekeeper and a member of the Virginia Beekeeper’s Association. Mr. Lawyer enjoyed boating, water-skiing and any auto racing, especially NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt. He loved dogs, reading, history, and making apple butter with his friends annually.
Surviving is his daughter, Tina P. Taylor (Russ) of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee; grandchildren, Tara Knight of Madison, Tennessee, Tabitha Russell of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, Taylor Knight of Hermitage, Tennessee; and four great grandchildren. J.D. is also survived by many family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Pastor Alan Morrison and Mr. David A. Owings officiating. A reception will follow the service at the Omps Reception Center, Omps Amherst Chapel. Interment will be Wednesday at 2:00 PM in Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia.
Serving as pallbearers will be J.D.’s family and extended family.
