Jakob William David Rivera, affectionately known as “Jakoby,” passed away unexpectedly on July 30, 2026, in Winchester, Virginia.
Born on August 12, 2002, in Frederick, Maryland, Jakob was the beloved son of Joshua John Rivera and Maria Aloi (Ford) Rivera. He was a proud graduate of James Wood High School, Class of 2020, and worked as a Customer Service Representative with Navy Federal Credit Union.
Jakob had a personality that naturally drew people to him. He was the life of every gathering, known for his quick wit, infectious sense of humor, and ability to make everyone around him laugh. A true gentle giant, Jakob had a kind and compassionate heart. He loved deeply and never hesitated to help others, especially animals. If he could have rescued every animal in need, he certainly would have.
Jakob found joy in building LEGO creations, playing video games, and spending countless hours enjoying Magic: The Gathering. He was a devoted Star Wars fan, rarely seen without one of his favorite hoodies and a pair of Vans and appreciated sharing a glass of Crown Royal with family and friends. More than any hobby, however, Jakob cherished the people he loved and the memories they created together.
In addition to his loving parents, Jakob is survived by his brothers: Zach Rivera (Alecia), Jefferson Rivera (Lilly), Chris Rivera, Robert Hudson, Andrew Azus, Dominic Revetta, Jeremiah Addison, and Tyler Thomas. He is also survived by his aunts and uncles: Johnell Collins, Jason Rivera (Gina), Avery Nightingale, Kay Davis, David Bagley Jr., and Stephen Bagley, along with many loving cousins and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jared Wakefield; his paternal grandparents, James Rivera and Janet Welch; his maternal grandparents, Patricia Bagley and Warren Jefferson Ford Jr.; and his aunt, Christina Ford.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Jakob’s life on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with the memorial service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Jakob’s father, Josh Rivera, will offer prayers, followed by family and friends sharing memories and eulogies. Burial will be private.
In honor of Jakob’s vibrant spirit and joyful personality, the family kindly requests that those attending the memorial service wear bright and colorful clothing instead of dark colors.
Memorial contributions may be made to Omps Funeral Home to assist the family.
Though his time with us was far too short, Jakob’s laughter, generosity, gentle heart, and unwavering love for those around him will live on in the countless lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
