Hilda May Racey, 102, passed away on Monday, May 19, 2025, at Spring Arbor of Winchester.

Hilda was born in 1922 in Gore, VA, the daughter of the late Joseph and Lula May Cooper. She retired from Clear Brook Wool Mill as a Spinner. Hilda was a member of Sunnyside Presbyterian Church. She liked furniture, gardening and tending to her house which she kept spotless. Hilda remained active and still drove well into her 90’s. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.

She married Lester Elwood Racey in Harrisonburg, VA on June 2, 1945, and he preceded her in death on December 1, 2011.

Hilda is survived by her sister, Mary Bucher; sister-in-law, Mary Cooper and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

In addition to her parents and husband, Hilda is preceded in death by her sisters, Georgia Peffer and Pauline Brown and her brothers, Frank, Robert, Douglas, Edward and William Cooper.

A Graveside Service will be held for Hilda on Friday, May 30, 2025, at 11am in Gainesboro Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Dr. Charles “Charly” W. Franks of Sunnyside Presbyterian Church.
