Herman S. “Pat” Barr Jr. (82) of Richmond, Virginia passed away February 27, 2014. Pat was born in Winchester, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman S. “Pat” Barr Sr. and Thelma R. Barr. He is survived by his wife, Peggy B. Barr and sister, Suzanne B. “Suzie” Kendall; three children, Herman “Pat” Barr, III and his wife Karen, Kimberly Buzzell and her husband, Stephen, Michael Barr and his wife, Dianne; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild; three step-children, Beverly Rollings and her husband John, William “Bucky” Hurt III and his wife Tonya, Lisa Brumfield and her husband Rick, and five step-grandchildren.
Pat graduated from Handley High School in Winchester, Virginia, class of 1950 and graduated from Virginia Tech (VPI) in 1954, with a B.S. in Business Administration. He served for four years in ROTC as Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant Army Artillery. While at Virginia Tech, Pat served as President and Vice President of the Future Business Leaders of America, was Company Officer in the Army ROTC, and member of the Freshman Football Team. Pat was a member of the Virginia Tech “Old Guard” and a true “Hokie.”
Pat served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 as a 1st Lieutenant, where he commanded a 90 MM Anti-aircraft Artillery Battery.
Pat retired from Reynolds Aluminum International, Richmond, Virginia in 1993 where he served in various “purchasing” management positions in Sheffield, Alabama, Charlotte, North Carolina, Caracas, Venezuela, and Richmond, Virginia. In retirement, Pat enjoyed fishing and was involved in various civic activities.
Pat and Peggy are active members of River Road United Methodist Church in Richmond, Virginia where they chaired the Leisure Club and participated in various church activities.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, March 7 at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel at 1600 Amherst St., Winchester, Virginia. Reverend Kirk Nave will be officiating the service. A private interment will take place at Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia.
