Herbert Marshall “Buzzy” Cockrell, 76, of Frederick County, Virginia, died September 27, 2015, in the VA Medical Center in Washington D.C.
Mr. Cockrell was born in 1939, in Ashburn, Virginia, the son of the late Harvey and Mary Cockrell. He was a longtime resident of Loudoun County and grew up in Ashburn, Virginia. He was a Veteran having served in the United States Air Force. Mr. Cockrell was the owner and operator of a trucking company. Buzzy loved most all sports, especially baseball. He played in the Loudoun County League in the 1950’s before going into the Armed Services. His favorite baseball players were Pete Rose and a local Loudoun County player, Ki Caylor.
Surviving are his sons, Larry Eric Cockrell of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Marshall Todd Cockrell of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara Moran of Winchester, Evelyn Cummings and her husband, Richard, of Ashburn; and two brothers, James Cockrell and his wife, Shirley of Woodstock, Virginia, and Larry Cockrell and his wife, Shirley, of New Market, Virginia. He also leaves a special friend Linda Everhart, two nephews and seven nieces.
A gathering of friends and reception will be held from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Sunday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
