Helen L. Abshire, 95, of Winchester, Virginia, died Sunday, May 1, 2016, at the Winchester Medical Center.
Miss Abshire was born in 1920, the daughter of the late S.S. and Bertella Abshire. She was a graduate of Handley High School, Winchester, Virginia and Shenandoah College in Dayton, Virginia. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Florence Nightingale Sunday School class, and the First United Methodist Church choir. She was retired from The Board of Global Ministries, United Methodist Church. She was a volunteer with the Winchester Medical Center Auxiliary and Shenandoah University.
Miss Abshire is survived by her niece, June B. Chapman, and her husband Al; great nieces, Sarah C. Witt, and her husband Tom, Beth C. Dodson, and her husband Eric; a great nephew, Darrell H. Chapman, great-great nephews and nieces, Tyler R. Witt, Ryan T. Witt, Colby B. Witt, Abigail L. Dodson, Avery C. Dodson, DJ Chapman, Ryan A. Chapman, Katlyn Chapman, and Hailey Chapman.
Miss Abshire was also preceded in death by her two sisters, Elvira A. Brown, and her husband Melvin, and Madge H. Fries, and her husband Lawrence, and nephew S. Scott Brown.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, May 15, 2016 at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel from 3-5pm.
