Gloria Gieseler Boone, 81, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 18, 2016.
She was born at her family home in Metairie, LA on November 30, 1934, and was the youngest of the four children of William and Catherine Gieseler. They were all part of a large and active family group in the New Orleans area.
She graduated from Metairie High School where she played both volleyball and basketball, and then attended Louisiana State University where she studied music and economics.
In 1955 she married fellow church member James V. Boone and they started over 61 years of loving marriage. Their activities led them to live in five states and Germany and they would eventually occupy fourteen homes. Their accomplished children, Clifford B. Boone, Sandra B. Smyser and Steven B. Boone are all happily married and each couple has three children. This group of grandchildren has, so far, also produced two great-grandchildren and all have contributed to Gloria’s enjoyment of life.
Gloria was always active in her churches as she moved around and she served in many roles including, choir member, Sunday School teacher, visitation coordinator, and church officer. She was also active in other community activities for example; she was a Girl Scout Troop leader, a member of an ESL team, a talented quilter, and an accomplished ballroom dancer. She also greatly enjoyed attending musical and dramatic performances wherever she traveled. An outgoing, loving and happy person, she made many good friends during her busy life.
A private burial service will be held for family and a few friends at the Woodlawn cemetery in Whitacre, VA. A larger celebration of life service will be held at the Eagle Heights Presbyterian Church, 403 South Loudoun St., Winchester, VA 22601, on Saturday, October 1, at 2 pm.
