Gian B.A. Caggiano, MD
Gian Batista Antonio Caggiano, 71, of Winchester, Virginia, died Tuesday, May 28, 2013, in his home.
Dr. Caggiano was born in 1941, in Washington, D.C., the son of the late Francesco and Maria Michelina Caggiano. He was a graduate of George Washington University receiving a MD and of Catholic University, Washington D.C., where he received a BS in Chemistry. Dr. Caggiano was a Veteran having served in the United States Army in Korea during the Viet Nam Conflict. He achieved the rank of Captain. Dr. Caggiano was an ER Physician with Winchester Medical Center (1977-1993), Winchester Urgent Care Center (1993-1998), Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Maryland and Sinai Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland.
He married May Antoinette “Toni” Covins on November 9, 1987, in Winchester, Virginia.
Surviving with his wife are three step-sons, Jack Unverferth and wife, Beth of Bellevue, Washington, William Unverferth and wife, Lureta McDermott of South Riding, Virginia, Doug Unverferth and wife Melissa, of Reston, Virginia; five grandchildren, Samantha, John, Liam, Callum and Seanid; a brother-in-law, Luigi Giordano of Italy and two nephews, Giovanni Giordano and wife, Cristina and Michele Giordano. One sister, Maria Giordano wife of Luigi, mother of Giovanni and Michele, preceded him in death.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, from 2:00-4:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
