Gerald was my big brother that always was there for me. He taught me the ropes of how to be a good Paper Boy! When first in the Army at Ft Belvoir, Virginia he drove up from Norfolk to make sure all was well. In 1968 his ship, the Newport News was on a layover in Japan and he asked me did I want anything from there. Sure, I said a Kawasaki 350 Motorcycle (kind of like a joke). When back in Norfolk he called me to say come down to get your Motorcycle that was in a crate needing just a “little” assembly. I did and it was great! The story was that he talked a merchant into sailing it to his ship on a “Junk” and then he got crew to put it in his Stateroom for trip home. Amazing what he could do! Love forever Brother Gerald.

I'm a Nam vet, 68-69, when my cousin Gerald was Commander on the Newport News supporting the Third Marine Division in I corp, his Mother, my Aunt Virginia told him that I was with the 101 st Airborne in the I corps area. Well he did what I think is the impossible, made arrangements to chopper me out of my area and choppered me to Quang Tri, then to Dong Ha, and then out to the ship. I got to stay on the ship for 5 or 7 days, not sure, but bunked in a 2.man room with this Lieutenant, and ate with him in the officers dining room. The food was great, like eating in a 5 star restaurant. They treated me like as of I was the Admiral's son, and there was an Admiral on board, got to meet him and of course saluted him. I was given a complete tour of the ship. How is it that someone can get another person out of a middle of a war and do this. I will never forget g. REST IN PEACE GERALD.

My wife Paulette and I met Jerry and Gerri shortly after moving to The Village at Orchard Ridge in 2015. We became close friends and often enjoined dinning together. Jerry's smile was infectious and he had a wonderful personality. They were both simply delightful, caring and decent people. We have many fond memories and will miss them dearly.
Peace of mind is a call away. We're here when you need us most.

It is with a great degree of sorrow that I read of the passing away of a good friend, and fellow warrior, Gerald "Jerry" Francis Horna Sr. I first met Jerry last winter when I was a resident at Spring Arbor for the months of February, March and April. Jerry and I shared a mess table with four other military veterans. We were all from different branches of the military and delighted in harassing each other about our branch of service. It was great fun, but we also admired each other for our service to our beloved country. Jerry was a cruise ship veteran while I spent more days and nights aboard aircraft carriers. My first experience at sea was aboard a WWII aircraft carrier named the USS Sicily. My last cruise was on the USS Forrestal. I was the night check maintenance officer for my squadron. Like all good sailors we loved to brag about our at sea experiences and bad mouth others. It was fun. I shall miss my good friend Jerry. He was a fine gentleman and a man to be admired. Bon Voyage my friend. And may you have fair winds and following seas.

Jerry and Gerri were some of the first people my husband and I met when we moved to Orchard Ridge in 2013. We enjoyed eating together at our new home. Jerry was very involved in the VFW group and was instrumental in getting many veterans to take advantage of the Honor Flight - Top of Virginia trips. That trip was a highlight of my husband's life. Thank you, Jerry.

To the Horna Family, My Mother and I enjoyed sharing mealtimes with Jerry at Spring Arbor. He would inquire about dessert and would be successful in scoring a few extra! He shared his life and adventures with us. I loved his smile and the twinkle in his eyes.
