Franklin Richardson Free, Jr.
Franklin “Jackie” R. Free, Jr., 76, of Springfield, Virginia, died Monday, April 7, 2014, at his home.
Mr. Free was born in 1938 in Frederick, Maryland, the son of the late Franklin R. Free, Sr. and the late Grace E. Braswell. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Free was retired from the federal government as a Law Enforcement Officer. He was a life-member of the Moose Lodge, NRA, F.O.P. & Boys Town USA. He enjoyed his family, collecting antique toys, firearms & knives.
Mr. Free married Linda Faye Collier on December 22, 1960 in Winchester, Virginia. Mrs. Free preceded him in death in 1998.
Surviving are daughters, Tina Baumann & husband, James and Tara Clark & husband, Robert all of Woodbridge, VA; sister, Sibby Petrie; brothers, Phillip Free, Jimmy Braswell, Tommy Braswell, and George Braswell; grandchildren, James Baumann, Jr. of Woodbridge, VA, Robert Baumann, of Dunnellon, FL, Donna Clark, of Dumfries, VA, and Bobby Clark, of Fredericksburg, VA and five great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, from 1 – 2 p.m. at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Shenandoah Memorial Mausoleum with Military Honors.
