Frank Edward Burke, 88, of Clear Brook, Virginia passed away Monday, February 11, 2019, at Lynn Care Center in Front Royal, Virginia.
Mr. Burke was born in 1930 in Lebanon, Virginia, the son of the late Luther and Juanita Burke. He worked for ACME Supermarket for 25 years and retired after 20 years of service from Frederick County Parks and Recreation, where he played a major role in establishing Sherando Park and was a maintenance supervisor at Sherando and Clear Brook Park. Mr. Burke would drive the bus for senior citizen trips through the Parks and Recreation. He loved the outdoors, especially when he was hunting, fishing, gardening, doing yardwork and horseback riding. Mr. Burke was an avid Redskins fan and loved listening to Bluegrass music. His greatest passion was family. He enjoyed the time spent with family, especially family dinners and holiday season get-togethers. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother that is missed and will always be loved. Mr. Burke was of the Presbyterian faith.
He married Ruth Maphis on May 10, 1952 in Hagerstown, Maryland.
Surviving with his loving wife of 66 years are daughters, Deborah Golladay (Gerry), Kimberly Fairfax, and Nancy Cates; son, Douglas Burke (Debra); grandchildren, Gerry Golladay, Jr. (Tanya), Danielle Jones (Joe), Jason Holt, Eric Bly, Douglas and Jermaine Burke; great grandchildren, Eric and Benjamin Golladay, Braelyn, Maddy, and Carson Jones, Nelaya and Kingston Burke, Evan Bly, and Patty Holt; brother, Stoney Burke, Sr.; and many nieces, nephews and dear, loving friends.
Mr. Burke was preceded in death by sisters, Jean Solis and Beth Herndon; and brothers, Carroll and Alfred Burke.
The family would like to express a special Thank You to lifelong family friends Debbie Burke and Keith Roberts for all their kind and loving assistance. Also, a Thank You to the entire staff at Lynn Care Center and Dr. Winter for their outstanding kindness, care and love in taking care of Frank. We would also like to acknowledge Dr. Hethcoat, his nurse, Lisa and staff for their wonderful years of care.
A visitation will be from 11 am to 1 pm on Monday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with a funeral service at 1 pm with Reverend Steve Melester officiating. Interment will be private.
Serving as pallbearers will be Mike Russell, Greg Cook, Kenney Lloyd, Joe Jones, Eric Golladay, and Dave Fishel.
Honorary pallbearers will be Keith Roberts, Allen Jobe, Gary Oates, Tom McTiernan, Dr. Gayland Hethcoat, and Mike Cook.
