Forrest E. McIlwee, Sr.
Forrest Elwood “Diddy” McIlwee, Sr., age 88, of Winchester, VA, formerly of 1958 Star Tannery Road, Star Tannery, died Monday, December 16, 2013, at a local nursing facility. Mr. McIlwee was born in 1925 in Star Tannery, Virginia, the son of the late Clyde David and Edna McIlwee. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in World War II. He was a production foreman and lab technician with O’Sullivan Corporation and union carpenter. He was a member of Gravel Springs Lutheran Church in Star Tannery. Mr. McIlwee was a member of the Carpentry Union and the Strasburg Moose Lodge. He and others formed the fire department in Star Tannery, and he served as the first treasurer of the department. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved baseball.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mamie Frances Colvin McIlwee and a brother, Clyde W. “Junior” McIlwee.
He is survived by a son, Forrest E. “Binky” McIlwee, Jr. of Strasburg, Virginia, a foster sister, Dorothy Shell-Walker of Winchester, Virginia, and a brother-in-law, Jack Colvin and his wife Shirley, of Strasburg, Virginia as well as a nephew, nieces and numerous cousins.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at Gravel Springs Cemetery, Star Tannery, Virginia, with Pastor Sonja Williams-Giersch officiating. Those who wish to visit Binky may do so at the home of Jack and Shirley Colvin.
