Floyd P. Owens, Jr.
Floyd Powell Owens, Jr., 88, of Stephens City, Virginia, died Thursday, May 24, 2012 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Martinsburg, West Virginia.
Mr. Owens was born in 1923 in Kearneysville, WV, the son of the late Nellie G. and Floyd P. Owens, Sr. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II in the 320th Infantry Battalion in Germany, Belgium and France, and in the Battle of the Bulge, December 13, 1944. During this time, he was awarded the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star and the Combat Infantry Badge. He also served in the 11th Airborne at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement, he was a car salesman and owner of an auto dealership. He was a member of St. Michael Anglican Church in Winchester, VA, and he graduated from high school in Charles Town, WV.
Mr. Owens married Frances Clendening Owens on August 10, 1959 in Winchester, Virginia.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Floyd P. Owens III of Ranson, WV and Mark F. Owens of Inwood, WV; two grandchildren, Ashley Owens of Memphis, TN and Emily Owens of Kearneysville, WV, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Owens was preceded in death by a daughter, Tracy Lynn Owens, a sister, Patricia A. Owens, a brother, Charles G. Owens, and his beloved Terrier, “Lucky.”
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 15, 2012 at St. Michael Anglican Church with Reverend Fr. Raleigh Watson and Reverend Mr. Harold Jones officiating. Inurnment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park at a later date.
