Florence McPherson
Florence McPherson, 93, of Stephens City, Virginia died Wednesday, April 18, 2012 in a local nursing facility.
Mrs. McPherson was born in 1919 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Adolph and Helen Olen. She was employed as an executive secretary with the CIA in Langley, Virginia, retiring in 1982 after 20 years of service. She was awarded the Career Service Award. She was a member of the Sherando Presbyterian Church, the Women’s Civic League of Winchester, NARFE (National Association of Retired Federal Employees), the Welcome Wagon and the Winchester Women of the Moose #1283. She was a 1938 graduate of Miss Conley’s Business School.
Her husband, Alexander J. McPherson, whom she married on September 19, 1968 in the Christ Lutheran Church in Washington, DC, preceded her in death on February 26, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Paul Lynn Dean.
Surviving is a son, Paul L. Dean, Jr. and wife, Mary Jane, of Stephens City, VA; two stepdaughters, Deborah Sasher and husband, Bill, of Herndon, VA and Donna Cresson and husband, Curtis, of Sterling, VA and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Mrs. McPherson was preceded in death by her step-mother, Flora O. Shirley; three sisters, Esther Bishirjian, Elfrieda Hendricks, and Elsie Miller, two brothers, William Olen and Walter Olen, and a stepson, Richard McPherson.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Monday, at Sherando Presbyterian Church with Reverend Tim Arnold officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.
