Cooley Bowers
Everett Coolidge “Cooley” Bowers, 88, of Frederick County, Virginia, died Saturday, October 13, 2012, in Westminster Canterbury.
Mr. Bowers was born in 1924, in Austinville, Virginia, the son of the late Samuel D. and Iva Bowers. He was a graduate of the University of Virginia. He was a Veteran having served in the United States Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. He was employed as a Chemical Engineer with Hercules, Inc. for 37 years, retiring in 1988. Mr. Bowers was a member of Braddock Street United Methodist Church in Winchester. He was also a member of the Lions Club, the Rotary Club and served with the Meals on Wheels program for several years. Cooley enjoyed trout fishing, hunting, golf, card games, and vegetable gardening. He had an extensive coin and stamp collection.
He married Betty Blair in 1946, in Austinville, Virginia.
Surviving with his wife is a daughter, Judy Levin and husband, Howard of Great Falls, Virginia; son, Everett C. “Bud” Bowers, Jr., of Hermosa Beach, California, two granddaughters, Andrea Levin Mitchell and husband, Scott of Orlando, Florida, Tami Levin Morgan and husband, Dan of Sterling, Virginia; two great grandchildren; and sister, Shirley Bralley of Madison Heights, Virginia.
Two brothers, Clayton Bowers and Edward Bowers and two young sisters preceded him in death.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:30 PM on Friday at Westminster Canterbury, with Chaplain Elizabeth Lewis and Chaplain Larry Lawhon officiating. Burial is private.
