The Mueller Family left a message on December 1, 2014:
I was saddened this evening to hear of Gene's passing. He was a bright star both on the Shenandoah stage and in our hearts here in Winchester. He was a man of true joy, and I take comfort knowing that he and June are together again. I will remember his laughter, his jokes, and his warm heart. You will be missed, Gene.

Gene was a shining light of SSMT and the Winchester Community. We will certainly miss his energy, spry smile and the twinkle in his eye. And his limmericks...oh his limmericks. Heaven not only gained an angel, but they got a whole lot of laughs, too.
Joshua Legg left a message on December 1, 2014:
Gene taught me how to tie a tie. He kicked my backside (often) when I needed it, whether we were doing a show together at SSMT or any other time I needed guidance. He was a really important part of my young adulthood, and I am so grateful our paths crossed.

It's a sad day for all of us, but thinking of the days of Gene backstage, or on stage bring back such incredible memories. One of the nicest, sweetest and funniest guys that I ever met.

I 'm a neighbor of the Babb's. Sorry to hear of Gene's passing but he is now with June and is probably having a good ole time. He was a very talented and caring man. I'm sure June was waiting for him at the Pearly Gates. My love to you. Sue Beach
Frances Lowe left a message on December 3, 2014:
The Babbs were neighbors of ours for many years on Jefferson Street. They were both delightful, friendly people. I saw him about a week ago walking at Apple Blossom Mall. It was the first cold snap and many people took advantage of a warm place to walk before the mall stores opened. I was pleasantly surprised to see Gene. He was enjoying his walk and conversation with several others. He called out to me asking how I was doing and how was my husband Pete. It was so good to see him and so nice to catch up. This community and all his friends will truly miss him. It was a pleasure to know both of them.

I only met Gene briefly but his gentle decency, humor, faith, and intelligence left an impression on me. It should be of comfort to all who knew him that his legacy of kindness lives on in his wonderful family, my sincerest prayers and condolences to them, especially Martha and Jim, who have been so kind to me in my own life. Much love, Jason.
