Ellen Barfield Stokes Darsie
Ellen Stokes Darsie, 61, of Stephenson, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2014, in her home, surrounded by family and friends.
Mrs. Darsie was born in 1952, in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, the beloved daughter of the late David R. and Liselotte Z. Stokes.
Ellen grew up in Westchester County, New York in the Hudson Valley. She graduated from Lakeland High School in Peekskill, New York in 1970. She then went on to graduate from the University of New Hampshire with a B. S. Degree in Zoology in 1974. While attending school her favorite activity was marching band both for Lakeland High and the UNH Wildcat Marching Band.
Ellen spent most of her adult life working in the medical field. She began her career as a dental assistant on the Osage Indian Reservation in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. She then went on to work at Perry Houston County Hospital in Perry, Georgia. Her seven years in Perry were spent as a laboratory assistant, phlebotomist, ward clerk, infection control and surgical assistant. Upon moving to Winchester she worked as a Medical Assistant with Dr. Byron Timberlake, then later as a Medical Assistant with Internal Medicine Specialists of Winchester.
Her passions in life were motherhood, cats, camping and traveling in the mountains, gourmet cooking, wildlife and wildflowers.
Ellen married David Paul Darsie on December 28th, 1974 in East Granby, Connecticut.
Surviving with her husband of 39 years are her son, John David Darsie and his wife, Amy Lynn Darsie and their daughter Zoe Jane.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday July 12, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel with Reverend Walter Turkowsky officiating, with a reception to follow at the funeral home. Interment will be private.
