Ellen C. Brazinsky Zawacki

Ellen Cecilia Brazinsky Zawacki, 81, of Winchester, Virginia, formerly of San Diego, California, died Monday, November 16, 2009, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mrs. Zawacki was born in 1927, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of the late Justin and Zuzanna Brazinsky. She was an Insurance Underwriter with Industrial Indemnity, retiring in 1992. Mrs. Zawacki was a member of Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Santee, California, and moved to Winchester in June of 2009.

Her husband, Joseph John Zawacki, whom she married on August 1950, in Chicago, Illinois, preceded her in death in 1959.

Surviving is her daughter, Linda Zawacki and her partner, Carol Lefevre, of Winchester, Virginia; son, Richard Zawacki and his wife, Joann, of LaMesa, California; daughter-in-law, Cathy Zawacki of Salt Lake City, Utah; four grandchildren, Rich Zawacki of San Diego, California, Christopher Zawacki of Lakeside, California, Angela Foulk of Lake Havasu, Arizona, Zoe Zawacki of LaMesa, California; five great grandchildren; her sister, Genny Stankov of Laguna Niguel, California; brother, Dan Brazinsky of Chicago, Illinois and many nieces and nephews.

One son, Bruce Zawacki, preceded her in death in October 2000.

A memorial mass will be held at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Santee, California. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Chicago, Illinois. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, P. O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38105, a cause that was close to her heart.

Local arrangements are being handled by Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, Winchester, Virginia.

I worked with Ellen at Industrial Indemnity, however, we never really knew each other until we met at church. What a friendship we had in the past 20 years. I will never forget our lunches, and phone calls, laughing and crying about our lives. I will surely miss her, but I know she is with God. God bless her and the entire family.

Dear Linda and Family - I was so sorry to hear about your Mom and so glad I saw her in July. She still had her infectious laugh that I remember so well after meeting her in California. Her warm smiles and hugs will stay with me forever as will her annual Christmas cards in which she always wrote of her love of God. She will be missed by all her knew her. My heart grieves for you.
