Eleanor Mary Toth, a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, passed away on December 15th, 2024, peacefully at home with her husband and daughter by her side. She bravely fought ovarian cancer with dignity and grace for over two and a half years. A recent transplant to Winchester, VA, she had lived in the Falls Church area for over 50 years.
Eleanor was born on January 6th, 1947, in Highland Park, IL, to Hazel and John Robertson. As the youngest of six siblings, she was doted on by her older brothers and sister, particularly her sister, Sheila. She moved with her family to the Falls Church area while in high school, and later spent more than 22 years working for the Social Security Administration in the Hearings and Appeals Branch as a Court Records Technician.
Eleanor met Attila (Al), the love of her life, while attending a Washington Ski Club event. They were married in August of 1983 and were together for 41 years. Their union produced one daughter, Jennifer, whom she adored beyond words. After retiring from the government, she dedicated herself full-time to being a homemaker for her loving family.
Eleanor was deeply proud of her Scottish and Irish heritage. Known for her caring nature, she always considered the feelings of others before her own. She adored her cats, especially Harry, and enjoyed watching Virginia Tech football. In their new home in Winchester, she took great joy in decorating and creating a sanctuary, welcoming local birds—particularly hummingbirds and cardinals—to the feeders visible from their sunroom. Eleanor had a special fondness for the snow, which graced her family both on the day of her passing and again on her heavenly birthday shortly thereafter. A devout Catholic, she was a long-time parishioner of St. Ambrose Church in Annandale before joining Sacred Heart of Jesus in Winchester.
Eleanor is survived by her devoted husband, Attila and daughter, Jennifer (Toth/Sabinin), son-in-law Stasi Sabinin, grandchildren Alina (5) and Adam (7 months), and brothers Neil and David Robertson. She is also lovingly remembered by her extended family and many dear friends who will miss her deeply.
Now at peace, Eleanor joins her parents, brothers John and James Robertson, and sister Sheila Passe in eternal rest.
A funeral service will take place at St. Ambrose Church in Annandale, VA at 11:30am on March 22nd, 2025. A reception to celebrate her life will follow at the church reception hall. The immediate family will depart for the interment right after the mass and will then rejoin during the reception.
