Edward C. Swartz, 92, of Frederick County, Virginia, died Sunday, August 23, 2015, at his home.
Mr. Swartz was born in 1923, in Frederick County, Virginia, the son of the late Walter S. and Ida M. Swartz. He was employed and retired from ABEX, Inc. in Winchester after 37 years of dedicated service. He can also be known for his work with the S-3 as a dirt track racing mechanic with Winchester Speedway. Edward was a loving family man and will be forever remembered for his love of woodworking, gardening and NASCAR. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He married Virginia Mae Luttrell on July 24, 1943, in Frederick County, Virginia. She preceded him on July 23, 2013.
Surviving is his daughter, Carolyn Bowers Swartz and her husband, John; sons, Clarence Junior Swartz of Frederick County, Roy Swartz and wife, Kathy, of Winchester, Ronald Steven Swartz, Kenny Allen Swartz, Ralph Franklin Swartz, Walter Scott Armel Swartz and wife June all of Frederick County; 27 grandchildren and many many great-grandchildren as well as his brother, Aubrey Swartz of Silver Spring, Maryland.
Three daughters, Virginia Darlene Alger, Sharon Louise Swartz, Robin Gail Swartz; brother, Roger Lee Swartz; sisters, Mildred Richardson, Genevieve Swartz, Dorothy Embrey Swartz, June Holiday; and brothers, Ernest, Charles, Lawrence, Russell and James Swartz, preceded him in death.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, from 6:00-8:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Thursday, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Funeral Celebrant Joseph R. Dilleree officiating. Interment will be in Payne’s Chapel Cemetery, Bunker Hill, West Virginia.
