Dorothy Josephine (Nelson) Melby, of Park Rapids, MN, died Sunday July 20, 2014.

Born in Minnesota in 1926, she was the daughter of Elmer and Hilda Nelson.

She married Richard Eugene Melby on February 8, 1948. He preceded her in death.

Surviving is her daughter, Susan Koering (James) of Colorado; sons Richard Melby (Katharine), David Melby (Diane) and Robert Melby (Beverly) all of Virginia; grandchildren Krista Korfmacher (Carl), Kari Castiglione (Vincent), James Koering, Richard “Justin” Melby, Esther Melby, Katharine “Katie” Melby, Elizabeth Gorman (Jeremy), Julia Melby, Dana Melby; 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at a later date in Minnesota.

In memory of Dorothy, memorial contributions may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 West Cork Street, Suite 405, Winchester, Virginia 22601.

Arrangements are being handled by Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.

Jerry and I were so sorry to hear of you loss. Susan, I remember your mother as such a kind woman. She was in our home when we had the children's book shower and I also spoke with her not too long ago when she was in Colorado visiting with your brother.
