Donald Ray Kerns 77 of Star Tannery, VA, passed away on Friday, August 22, 2025, peacefully at home.
Donnie was born in 1948 in Clarke County, VA, the son of the late John and Virginia Kerns. He served our country during the Vietnam War in the United States Army for the 101st Airborne division. He was a Crew Chief on the Medevac Helicopter team known as “Dustoff”. Donnie retired as a forklift operator for Berryville Graphics. He enjoyed going to car races at Winchester and Hagerstown Speedways and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Carolyn whom he married on September 5, 1967; daughter, Angie Dawn Foreman (Robert Brown); grandchildren, Carrie Elizabeth Foreman (Marcus Wisecarver), John Michael Ray Foreman (Megan Menefee); great-granddaughters, Alexis Kaylyn Wisecarver, Della Ray Foreman and brothers, Doug Kerns (Nida), Nathan Kerns (Faye) and Bobby Kerns.
In addition to his parents, Donnie was preceded in death by his son-in-law, John Foreman II and 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
A visitation will be held for Donnie on Thursday, September 4, from 1:00pm-2:00pm at the Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel followed by a graveside service at 2:15 pm with Military Honors at Shenandoah Memorial Park. Pastor Alan Morrison will officiate.
