Donald L. “Don” Jennings, 93, of Winchester, VA passed away Monday, November 12, 2018, at Evergreen Health and Rehab Center.
Mr. Jennings was born in 1925 in Martinsburg, WV, the son of the late Lewis and Minnie Jennings. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during WWII achieving the rank of Aviation Machinist Mate, 3rd Class. Mr. Jennings was regional freight director for B&O Railroad in Winchester, retiring in 1986. In the past he owned and operated Albin Cash Grocery in Frederick County, VA and a Greyhound Bus agency in Cumberland, MD. He was a 67 year member of Equality Lodge #44 (A.F. & A.M.) in Martinsburg, WV, a 57 year member of Winchester Elks Club, Winchester Moose Club, Winchester Host Lions Club, and a former member of the Ali Ghan Shriners in Cumberland, MD. Mr. Jennings was director of the Apple Blossom Parade in 1969, past president of the Shenandoah Traffic Club and a former member of Carper’s Valley Country Club. He was an avid golfer and loved jazz music.
His wife, Jean Jennings, whom he married on December 20, 1946 in Clear Spring, MD, preceded him in death in 2009.
Surviving are daughters, Donna McIlwee (Charles) of Winchester, VA and Karen Rooney (John) of Fuquay-Varina, NC; sons, Mark Jennings (Vicki) of Palm Harbor, FL and Kevin Jennings (Wendy) of Manassas, VA; grandchildren, Chad Jennings (Sarah) of New York, NY, Nicolette Jennings of Palm Harbor, FL, Katherine Roper (Steven) of Winchester, VA, Eric Jennings (US Coast Guard) of Lexington Park, MD, Jordan and Ryan Jennings of Manassas, VA.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm on Friday at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel with a funeral service at 1:30 pm with Mr. David Owings officiating.
Entombment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park Mausoleum, Winchester, VA.
Serving as pallbearers will be Mark Jennings, Kevin Jennings, Chad Jennings, Steven Roper, Ryan Jennings, and Eric Jennings.
