Dear Donnie and Family: Emily and I send our deepest condolences on the passing of your dear dad. Don Smallwood was a remarkable man, and a lifelong friend. He was proudly one of the founders of the Judges Athletic Association and left a legacy of incredible commitment and leadership for the JAA. The JAA would not be the powerhouse it is today without the visionary leadership of Don Smallwood and other founders. Don was a huge talent and a super, super artist. When I was Assistant AD at Maryland, I asked Don to create the bowl game logos and signs that were displayed in Byrd Stadium and also portraits for the great speakers that we had featured for Maryland football and basketball banquets like John Wooden, Muhammad Ali, Jesse Owens, Adolph Rupp, etc. Everyone in attendance at those events were astounded at the quality of work that Don created. Also, Don created the beautiful portraits that were displayed at the Sports Breakfast for such great Sports Marshals as Mickey Mantle, Sammy Baugh, Jack Dempsey, etc. Don was also a superb City Councilman who made a real difference for our community. He was a man of great character and integrity and he leaves a legacy of love and achievement. He and Flo enjoyed a great marriage and touched so many lives. Please know we’re thinking of you. Love and God bless, and go Judges! Your friends always, Russ and Emily Potts
