Donald Dutton Harman, 88, of Winchester, Virginia, died Wednesday, February, 19, 2014, in Blue Ridge Hospice Residential Center.
Mr. Harman was born in 1925, in Clearbrook, Virginia, the son of the late Newton W. and Carrie E. Fiddler Harman. He was the owner and operator of Harman Construction retiring in 1984, after 34 years of service. Mr. Harman was a member of First Assembly of God and Winchester Church of God. He loved playing music, Donald and his wife started a gospel group called the “The Ministry Gospel Singers”. He did volunteer work at local nursing home’s, rescue missions and Winchester Hospital.
He never stopped loving and believing in the Lord, he played and sang up until he wasn’t able. He was a loving husband; father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend who loved to tell a joke to make us laugh. He was hard worker and never gave up.
He married Ruby Louise Hutsler on January 14, 1950, in Hagerstown, Maryland.
Surviving with his wife, is his daughter, Darlene Robinson and husband, Robert; son, Tim Harman, all of Winchester; three grandchildren, Teresa Dice, Tina Steelman, Andrew Robinson; and seven great grandchildren.
Mr. Harman is preceded in death by five sisters, Gladys Taylor, Delphia Cornwell, Evelyn Harrison, Retha Combs, Hilda Brown and six brothers, Norman, Grantham, Dutch, Jim, Preston, and Neville Harman.
The family will receive friends on Monday, prior to the service, from 10:00-11:00 AM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Monday, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, with Pastor Kent Woodward and Pastor Harley Wigfield officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park, Frederick County, Virginia. Military honors by V.F.W. Post #2123.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Combs, Robert Robinson, Andrew Robinson, Bobby Steelman, Kenny Dice and Keith Harman.
