Dirma Volpi Headley
Mrs. Dirma Volpi Headley, 90, of White Post, VA, died Sunday, December 15, 2013, in Winchester Medical Center. Mrs. Headley was born in Varano de’ Melegari, province of Parma, Italy, on February 19, 1923, the daughter of Augusto and Ines Volpi. She went to live in England at age three and survived the bombing of London during WWII. In 1944 she became a war bride, marrying J. David Headley of Winchester, VA, and came to America, later becoming a US citizen. Mrs. Headley was a founding member of Headley’s Antiques of White Post. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was also a fabulous cook who learned from London chefs, and the family gathered regularly to enjoy her meals. Mrs. Headley was an avid reader who passed on her love of learning and books.
Mrs. Headley is survived by her children, Maria Shoup of Middletown, VA, Toni Crabill of Winchester, VA, Michael Headley of Cheverly, MD, and James Headley of White Post, VA. Her husband, J. David Headley, died on February 13, 1997. Her son David A. Headley, predeceased her in May of 2010. Her grandchildren Tristian Crabill and Gretchen Shoup also preceded her in death. Her sisters, Nova, Teresa, Anna and Lydia and her brothers Nevio, Gino and twin brother Dante predeceased her as well.
She is survived by grandchildren, Scott Shoup, Stephanie Funkhouser, Christine Wismer, Holly Braithwaite, Josh Headley, Ashley Headley, Alex Headley, Jason Headley and Michael J. Headley. Mrs. Headley is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Emily Funkhouser, Jack and Katrin Shoup, Max Wismer, MacKenzie Crockett, Natalie Braithwaite and Lexi Headley.
