Dennis Lee Wolford, 79, of Winchester, passed away on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at his home surrounded by family.

Dennis was born May 7, 1946, in Frederick County the son of the late Ras Theodore and Mary Louise Pitcock Wolford.

Dennis completed his General Educational Development (GED) high school equivalency in 1965 and was a member of Second Opequon Presbyterian Church. He was employed as a Senior Master Sergeant with the Air National Guard 167th Airlift Wing in Martinsburg where he had over 39 years of service and he was also the owner/operator of Wolford Auto Service in Winchester for over 25 years where he would work evenings and weekends. Dennis was a talented and skilled mechanic, a true master of his craft. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix, whether it had wheels, a motor, or just needed a little ingenuity. Friends, neighbors, and family alike relied on his gifts, and he was always happy to help—often refusing any payment beyond a simple “thank you.” Being “Papa” to his grandchildren was his proudest role and nothing brought him more happiness than his grandchildren. Whether it was fixing a wobbly bike, or sneaking them an extra treat, he showed his love through time and attention. His grandchildren knew that in Papa’s eyes, they were perfect—and that his love for them was unwavering.

He married Lorraine Anderson on December 28, 1968, and she preceded him in death on November 23, 2025.

Dennis is survived by sons Christopher “Scott” Wolford (the late Suzanne “Suzie”) and Kevin Travis Wolford (Lilly Triplett); grandchildren Savannah Nicole Wolford and Weston T. Wolford; his sister Wanda Scannell (the late Tom) and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and his wife Lorraine, Dennis is preceded in death by his two sisters Nancy B. Wolford and Francis Wright and her husband Robert.

A Celebration of Life for Dennis will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, from 5pm to 9pm at West Oaks Farm Market with Pastor Jeff Barbour sharing words at 6:30pm.
