Delmus Ray “Del” Hale, 84, of Kearneysville, WV, passed away on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at his home.
Del was born in 1937, in Cumberland, KY, the son of the late Edith Vernon and Harrison Delmus Hale. He was a veteran having served during the Viet Nam Era, in the United States Air Force achieving the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. He retired after 28 years of dedicated service. After retirement, he was an air traffic controller at the 167th Air National Guard in Martinsburg, WV. With his late wife, Betty, they owned and operated Dustbusters, LLC, a janitorial service in West Virginia they operated for over 35 years.
Del was very family oriented and loved spending time with them. He loved music and sharing it with friends and family, especially around the pool table.
His beloved wife, Betty Hale, whom he married on May 9, 1958, in Woodway, VA, preceded him in death on March 19, 2018.
Surviving is his daughter, Melinda K. DeGraw and husband, Bart, of Winchester, VA; sons, Ronald Ray Hale and wife, Laura, and James L. Hale, and wife Shelley, all of Martinsburg, WV; grandchildren, Jeremy Ryan Lee and wife, Carrie, of Tallahassee, FL, Jesseka R. Wood and husband, Daniel, of Brunswick, MD, Corey A. Hale, James Quinton Hale and Andrew Hale, all of Martinsburg, WV; two great grandchildren, Oliver Franklin Lee of Tallahassee, FL and Eleanor Lee Wood of Brunswick, MD; sister, Clauda Faye Ball and husband, Sterling, of Kernersville, NC; and nephews, Charles Eddie Ball and Keith Ball of Kernersville, NC.
Along with his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Shawn Lee; sister, Lela May Lambert; and his beloved dog, Holly.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 12:00 – 1:00 PM followed by a funeral service at 1:00 pm at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel, with Reverend Sue Adams officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be James Hale, Quinton Hale, Corey Hale, Ronald Hale, Jeremy Lee, Bart DeGraw, and Andrew Hale.
