Debra W. Godwin, 63, of Frederick County, Virginia passed away Thursday, December 21, 2017 at home surrounded by her loving family.
Debra was born in 1954 in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, the daughter of Doris Woodworth and the late Lafayette Woodworth. She graduated from James Madison University earning a Bachelor’s degree and from George Mason University earning her Master’s Degree in Education. Debra was a Licensed Professional Counselor with Fairfax County, Virginia. She loved quilting and was involved with the quilting guild “Burke Quilters Unlimited”. Debra enjoyed Bible Study and was a member of Braddock Street United Methodist Church. She volunteered at elementary schools as a reading buddy to children and volunteered at the NICU at Winchester Medical Center rocking babies. Debra loved spending time with her two grandsons. Her greatest passion was her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister that is loved and will be missed.
Debra also worked at an emergency operations center for the Fairfax County Police Department. While working there she met her husband, David Paul Godwin, whom she married on February 26, 1979 in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Surviving are two daughters, Dr. Ashley G. Blansett (Chris) and Dr. Andrea G. Weisberger (Jeff); grandsons, Stiles P. Blansett and Elliott L. Weisberger; sisters, Dawn Jackson and Jill Markham (Keith); brother, Kim Woodworth (Karen); her beloved chocolate Lab, Gus; and many loving nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Debra was preceded in death by her father, Lafayette Woodworth and brother, Larry Woodworth (Terri).
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 am on Thursday at Braddock Street United Methodist Church with Reverend Kirk Nave officiating. A fellowship reception will follow the service at the church. Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia.
