Deborah Lynn “Debby” Barkemeyer Payne, 57, of Winchester, Virginia died Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at her home.
Mrs. Payne was born in 1956 in Palmyra, Indiana, the daughter of the late Eugene and Sarah Barkemeyer. She was a graduate of New Albany High School, Class of 1974, and earned an Associate’s Degree in Science from New River Community College. She was a veteran of the United States Air National Guard until her retirement on July 7, 2013, having attained the rank of Master Sergeant. She served during Vietnam, the Gulf Wars, Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom, and received the Meritorious Service Medal. Mrs. Payne attended Opequon Presbyterian Church. She was Chief Deputy Clerk for the Winchester Circuit Court and was a member of Ladies of the Moose.
Mrs. Payne married MacArthur Wainwright Payne on August 14, 1990 in Elizabeth, Indiana.
Surviving with her husband are two sons, Michael David Hartman and wife, Beth, of Decatur, GA and Ryan Lee Hartman and wife, Celeste, of West Palm Beach, FL; a step-son, David MacArthur Payne of Front Royal, VA; two step-children, Christine Marie and Timothy MacArthur Payne of Spotsylvania County, VA; six grandchildren, Julia Leigh Hartman, Philip Blake Hartman, Alexis Leigh Hartman, Drew Davis Hartman, Caitlin Elizabeth Hartman and Emmalin Riley Hartman; three step-grandchildren, Nicole Ashley Senters, Connor Payne and Alexander Payne, and three brothers, Ralph Eugene Barkemeyer and wife, Karen of San Antonio, TX, William Darrell Barkemeyer and wife, Jan of Topeka, KS, and her twin brother, Donald Wayne Barkemeyer of Jeffersonville, IN.
She was preceded in death by a brother, LeRoy Morris Barkemeyer.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 7:00 – 9:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Monday at Opequon Presbyterian Church with Pastor David Witt officiating. Entombment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.
