David B. Price, 90, passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at Orchard Woods Health Center, Winchester, Virginia. David was born in April 1931 to Adolph and Marie (Boughner) Price in Marietta, Ohio. Dave was preceded in death by his wife Frances as well as his sister Eileen Block, his only sibling.
David graduated from Marietta High School in 1949, and Ohio University in 1953, Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Industrial Engineering. Dave was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity and Tau Beta Pi Honor Society at Ohio University.
In 1952 Dave married his childhood sweetheart Frances Palmer. She had finally gotten over his snatching of her umbrella and turning it inside out in Second Grade. They celebrated almost 69 years of marriage before her passing earlier this year. David and Frances were the parents of Scott Price (wife Julianna Dolfinger-Price) and Elizabeth Price. Dave was a much-loved ‘Grandaddy’ to Sophia and Lydia and ‘Grandpa Dave’ to Brittanie, Alex and Landon. He was a supportive Uncle to Eileen’s children Steve and Chris and to Fran’s sister’s children Steve, Mike, Tim Lane and Mark, Brian and Andrew Reid.
David was a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers and The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. He began his appliance industry career with the Westinghouse Electric Corporation Graduate Program in 1953. Dave and his family lived in Ohio, Pennsylvania and New Jersey as they traveled for his employment.
Dave was sole-creator of a chemical / biological / radiological (CBR) air purifier for a home fallout shelter for the U.S. Defense Department during the Cold War. He also held 23 patents for small appliances that were designed early in his product development engineer career. Dave retired as Vice-President of Marketing for the Frigidaire Company.
Dave and Fran chose Winchester, Virginia as their ideal retirement home, moving to Winchester in 1994. David had great faith in the Lord and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Winchester Ward. He served in many capacities including a member of the Branch Presidency of the Romney, West Virginia Branch, Family History Center Director, Stake High Council member and Employment Specialist.
Dave was a wonderful husband and father, known for his peanut brittle and love of football. He adored his grandchildren and would do anything for them. He was a man with strong family values, integrity and above all, honesty. He was generous with his love, time and resources. Dave was a master planner, and he thoroughly enjoyed helping others in any endeavor that they were pursuing. He loved giving advice on any subject, but especially Volkswagens, tires and lawnmowers. His guidance, love and humor will be sorely missed.
